About

My name is Rick Abelson.  Originally from Minnesota, I escaped after graduating high school in 64′ and spent the next 15 years traveling the world courtesy of the United States Navy.  I ended up in Las Vegas as the Navy recruiter until I retired and started a very successful career in sales in 1977.

I worked in all areas of Las Vegas real estate finally spending my last 15 years with one of the largest vacation ownership (timeshare) companies in the world.  Life was very good and profitable.  So much so that I retired on Dec. 31st of 2004 and moved to Ecuador, South America to study spanish and travel.

As much fun as retirement was, I missed the interaction with co-workers and my real passion which was training others in sales.  I have always loved that great feeling of seeing someone become successful in sales and knowing that I might have had a small part in it.  Those are feelings that I have never been able to put a price-tag on.   Bottom line is I missed the give and take and so here I am learning about blogging as a medium to get back in the race and share my expertise with all you good folks.

I am going to follow the axiom that I will get everything in life that I want if I just help enough other people get what they want.   That is the purpose of my new blog.  I want to share my life experiences to help others.  I want to share the knowlege I have gained from all my travels, the thousands of books read, the invaluable lessons learned from co-workers and the observations of over 60 years on the path of life.

I will try to live up to the following ideal:

To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived.  This is to have succeeded - Ralph Waldo Emerson

What a glorious quote!  It really cuts to the core of what it means to lead a life based on the dedication of helping others.  I am quite sure that all great teachers share that simple philosophy.  If only one person benefits they have been a success.  From my standpoint it seems such a daunting task to write an article for my blog that will have a positive impact on somebody I have never met.  I guess I can take relief from the fact that there are potentially many millions of folks around the planet that have access to the internet and could actually stumble onto this blog.  So, if I just consider the immense size of my conceivable audience my chances of making a positive impact on just one person are pretty good.  I can’t fail with those odds!

My posts may stray from my main topic from time to time but, so what?  Life seems to work that way anyhow.  It’s the present moment that has the most impact on our future.  It’s the choices we make right now!The first thing to do is follow Andy’s advice from The Shawshank Redemption.  “Get busy living, or get busy dying.”  If I remember that every day above ground is a great day then I can greet everyday with optimism.  Yesterday is just a cancelled check.  Tomorrow is only a promissory note.  Only TODAY is legal tender!  What I do today is all that is important.  I am excited for my journey.

What does a 61 year old guy do?  What will my legacy be?  Anything is possible.  Stay tuned and I will keep you up to date as I search for my bliss with this new medium of blogging.  I am going to find the doors that are now open where there weren’t any doors before!  I look forward to your comments and help.  There is nobody smarter than all of us together!  Let’s git’ er done!

I want to thank my son Richard who is a computer whiz for turning me on to this blog idea.  I am supplying the content and he is supplying the technical expertise.  We are just taking baby steps to begin but the fun is in the journey.  Fasten your seatbelts!  Rick
